In a series of Instagram/Facebook posts, Chris Charles hinted at committing to the Saigon Heat by using the Vietnam Flag emoji.

He also replied to a comment on his post, giving the Saigon Heat faithful a jolt of enthusiasm.
The two-time ABL import MVP won his second Defensive Player of the Year award last year when he played for Thai club, Hitech Bangkok City, swatting away 3.3 blocks per game. Some fans criticized Charles for dropped production last season, which says a lot about the standard he has put up in his career after averaging 17.3 points and 15.8 rebounds per game.
Charles has played 3 seasons in the ABL starting with the Sports Rev Slammers of Thailand in Season 4. He then got his first ABL Title with Hitech Bangkok City (Thailand) in Season 5 before resigning with them last season. He has a career average of 19.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 3.7 block shots per game.
Lenny Daniel had already resigned with the Saigon Heat, while David Arnold and Stefan Nguyen should easily be back on board after their stint in the VBA. After the recent unofficial report of the Joshua Munzon signing, Charles should be the last piece of the Saigon Heat starting five puzzle unless an unknown star pops up from the VBA ranks.
Charles and Daniel seem like a nice fit on paper. One being ferociously athletic and powerful while the other being a gentle giant with a calm attitude. Daniel didn’t have mobility and length that Charles possesses last year beside him (with Will Creekmore and Paul Williams). This should open up the game more for both players. The Heat allowed 85.4 points per game last season (worst among playoff teams) and that is what Coach Tony Garbelotto should hope to improve with this acquisition.
