Over the past few weeks, I have been updating the player movement in the ASEAN Basketball League and in Thailand. This has led to large number of people asking me both publicly and privately the same question: Why isn’t Thailand in the ASEAN Basketball League this season?

Basketball is really a hot trend now in Thailand. As a Thai basketball junkie, I have to say that I couldn’t be happier.
Other than the SEABA Stankovic Cup that is going to be held 22-29 May (which I have been constantly remind everyone, so don’t say no one informed you guys), Thailand will also be hosting another international basketball competition.

ผมได้สรุปรวมเอาผลรางวัล (ภาคแรก) ของ TBL 2015 อย่างไม่เป็นทางการในกลางๆ สัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา และ ถึงแม้ว่าจะใช้เวลาในการตัดภาคจบออกมาได้ ในที่สุด มันก็คลอดออกมาแล้วครับ

ก่อนที่จะไปดูผลรางวัลอย่างไม่เป็นทางการของผมเอง มาดูผลทางการของคณะกรรมการ TBL กันดีกว่า

Tones & Definition TBL 2015 Awards Ceremony: Part 2

We wrapped up the first part of the TBL 2015 (unofficial) awards sometime last week and while it took quite sometime to wrap up the finale, it is finally here.

Before we dig into our unofficial awards, let’s take a look at the official awards from TBL.

TBL Finals Game 1 Recap: จังหวะเปลี่ยนเกม

มีโค้ชคนหนึ่ง เคยบอกผมว่า ในการแข่งขันบาสเก็ตบอลเกมหนึ่ง จะมี “จังหวะเปลี่ยนเกม” สองครั้ง แน่นอนว่า จังหวะหนึ่งคือ จังหวะเริ่มต้นเกม ถ้าออกสตาร์ทไม่ดี ก็ยากที่จะกู้จังหวะคืนมาได้ และจบลงไปอย่างสวยหรู คนส่วนใหญ่คุ้นเคยกับจังหวะนี้กันอยู่แล้ว และข้อเท็จจริงนี้ ที่ทำให้เราทุกๆ คนมุ่งที่จะเป็นห้าตัวแรกที่ลงสนาม ด้วยความที่ต้องการจะ “มีบทบาท” กับเกม

จากนั้นโค้ชจึงถามต่อว่า “จังหวะเปลี่ยนเกม ที่สำคัญอีกจังหวะหนึ่งละ รู้ไหม คืออะไร”
ภายในหัวของผมเองก็กรองด้วยตรรกะระดับที่สมัยนั้นพึงมี และคิดไว้ในใจว่า “มันต้องเป็นช่วง 5 นาทีสุดท้ายของควอเตอร์ที่ 4 แน่ๆ”
โค้ชก็พูดต่อทันทีว่า:

“ถ้าคุณคิดว่า มันคือ 5 นาทีสุดท้ายของควอเตอร์ที่ 4 ละก็ คุณคิดผิด”

TBL Finals Game 1 Recap: Game Defining Moments

One of my coaches told me that there are two major defining moments in a game of basketball. One is, of course, at the start of the game. If you get off on the wrong foot, it will be hard to follow up and end on a high note. Every one pretty much knew about this already. This was why most of us try hard to be a starter on the team. Every one wants to make their presence felt.

But then Coach asked us what the second most defining moment in a basketball game is. In my head, I thought it was only logical that it would be the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. That’s when my coach said:

“If you think it’s the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter, you’re wrong.”

What is a season of basketball without the glitz and glamour of handing out awards?
I know that the players are not in the game for the individual awards and that the ultimate goal is ending the season with a win (and a championship), but it just doesn’t feel right as someone who has followed a large part of the season to not give out props to where it is deserved.

So let’s give a round of applause for this year’s Thailand Basketball League unofficial award celebration hosted by Tones & Definition!

แล้วการแข่งขันบาสเก็ตบอลมาหนึ่งฤดูกาล มันจะมีความหมายอันใด ถ้าเราไม่สละเวลามาชื่นชมคนที่ทำผลงานดีๆ กันบ้าง!
ตัวผมเองก็รู้ว่านักกีฬาแต่ละคนไม่ได้เล่นโดยแสวงหาความสำเร็จเฉพาะบุคคล และ เป้าหมายสูงสุดคือการจบฤดูกาลลงด้วยชัยชนะ (ในนัดชิงชนะเลิศ) แต่มันก็คงรู้สึกขาดๆ เกินๆ ในฐานะคนที่ติดตามมาตลอดทั้งฤดูกาล หากจะไม่ได้แสดงความชื่นชมในจุดที่สมควรจะได้ชื่นชม
